Meet Your Occupational Therapist
Karissa Brand, OTR/L, CAPS
Occupational Therapist | Founder of AgeWell NJ
My passion for occupational therapy began with a simple belief: independence is deeply personal. The ability to move safely, care for yourself, and continue participating in meaningful daily activities plays a critical role in maintaining both physical health and overall quality of life. I am committed to helping my clients preserve their independence and continue living life on their own terms.
My Approach
I founded AgeWell NJ to provide a truly individualized, one-on-one approach to care, because no two people are the same.
Each client brings their own strengths, experiences, and goals. What is meaningful and important to them becomes the foundation of their program. When therapy is connected to the activities that bring purpose and joy, it becomes far more motivating and effective.
Every program is thoughtfully designed around the individual, helping to improve strength, balance, and safety in ways that directly support their daily life and independence.
My goal is not only to help clients become stronger and safer, but to help them continue living as themselves, confidently participating in the activities and routines that matter most to them.
My Experience
Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with older adults in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and private homes.
I have helped individuals regain strength after illness or surgery, improve balance to prevent falls, and rebuild the confidence needed to safely return to their daily routines.
These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the physical, emotional, and environmental factors that impact independence. I created AgeWell NJ to provide a more personalized, one-on-one approach focused entirely on helping clients remain independent in their own homes and communities.
As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, I have advanced training in identifying fall risks, recommending home modifications, and creating strategies to support long-term safety and accessibility.
I also have specialized training in functional capacity evaluation and strength and conditioning for older adults. This allows me to design highly individualized programs that improve strength, balance, mobility, and endurance, while reducing fall risk and supporting long-term independence.
It is a privilege to support my clients in maintaining their independence and quality of life.
